naturopathic medicine

  • naturopathic medicine is the art and science of disease diagnosis, treatment and prevention using natural therapies to support and stimulate the body’s ability to heal itself.   Naturopathic doctors (ND s) develop individualized treatment plans that view the patient as an integral whole. The primary goal of naturopathic treatment is to address and treat the cause of an illness, with a focus on health education and prevention.
  • naturopathic family medicine focuses on classical homeopathy, chronic illness, digestive concerns, hormonal imbalances, skin disorders, pre and post natal care and pediatrics.
  • treatment approach focuses on restoring the body, mind and spirit to a balanced state of health using gentle therapeutic techniques including homeopathy, acupuncture, botanical medicine, detoxification, hydrotherapy, nutrition and lifestyle counseling.
  • testing is available for Food and Environmental Allergen testing, Salivary Hormone testing, Hair mineral analysis – screening for heavy metal and nutritional mineral analysis, and Urinalysis.

What can I expect from naturopathic visits?
  • Your initial visit will include a consultation, detailed history, a general physical exam and specific naturopathic assessments.  If it becomes necessary for a more complete analysis of your health status, you may be asked to have further laboratory tests through your medical doctor, or additional testing through our office lab facilities.
  • On your second visit, usually two weeks later, a detailed report of findings and your individualized treatment plan will be discussed.  Also, any remaining portion of the physical exam will be completed on this visit. Treatment plans may include dietary changes, botanical/ herbal medicine, nutritional supplementation, homeopathy, acupuncture/ Traditional Chinese Medicine and hydrotherapy.
  • Subsequent follow up visits are typically every 4 to 6 weeks. Your progress will be monitored and treatments will be modified accordingly.  If you are receiving acupuncture as your primary treatment, visits will be more frequent, either once or twice weekly for approximately 6-10 sessions.  As you start to experience a new level of wellness, we suggest an office visit every three to four months for general disease prevention and health maintenance.

Naturopathic Service Descriptions

Primary Care
Naturopathic doctors are general practitioners trained as specialists in natural medicine. In practice, they perform physical examinations and use laboratory testing as a part of their assessment.

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine
An ancient system of medicine based on balancing the flow of energy (Qi) through the meridian pathways in the body using very thin needles, Chinese herbal formulas and dietary considerations.  Tongue and pulse diagnoses are used to determine patterns of disharmony and develop individualized treatment plans. A constitutional approach is effective in the treatment of pain and chronic illness.

Biotherapeutic DrainageTM
The use of homeopathic combination remedies to detoxify the body by organ system and treat underlying tendencies toward illness.  The goal of treatment is to rid the body of accumulated toxicity and to restore normal physiological functioning.

Botanical Medicine
The use of whole plant extractions individually or in combinations and may be in the form of tinctures (alcohol extractions), gemmotherapies (alcohol and glycerine extractions from actively growing shoots), teas and capsules.

Clinical Nutrition
Examines the relationship between diet and health.  Food intolerances, allergies / sensitivities, nutritional deficiencies or excesses have been associated with many medical conditions.  Reaching optimal health may require dietary changes and the use of nutraceuticals to balance deficiencies or support systems.

Homeopathic medicine
A system of medicine that has been practiced worldwide for over 200 years and uses remedies that are prepared from natural sources - plant, animal or mineral substances that stimulate the body to heal itself.  These preparations are used in very small amounts and are safe and non-toxic. It is based on the principle that ‘like cures like’, and matches the symptom picture of the patient in their totality with the picture of the medicine.

Hydrotherapy
The use of hot and cold water applied to the body with towels to stimulate or modulate the immune system, enhance digestion, detoxify the body, and bring circulation to the tissues.

Lifestyle Counseling
The empowerment of individuals to make positive lifestyle choices, and the incorporation of daily and seasonal health practices into their life to promote optimal well-being.
